I pursued a career in pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition to make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients. I chose to focus my interest in helping children with gastrointestinal and feeding disorders. I established the Multidisciplinary Feeding Clinic at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital, where I work in collaboration with nutritionists, speech–language pathologists, and social workers to address the complex needs of these patients. We address many factors that cause feeding difficulties, including short bowel syndrome, eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), food protein–induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES), avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and congenital intestinal defects such as gastroschisis and cleft palate.

When I see such complex conditions, my goal is to determine the specific cause and provide patients with excellent long-term care. I review each patient’s history in detail, as not every patient fits in one category. I believe in evidence-based medicine, an integrative and collaborative approach to patient care, and shared decision-making. I ensure that patients and families understand treatment options and understand potential risks and benefits.

I also provide a novel nonpharmacologic approach for functional abdominal pain disorders of brain–gut interaction (DGBI) in appropriate patients by providing percutaneous electrical nerve field stimulation (PENFS), also known as IB-Stim.

I am board-certified in both pediatric gastroenterology and in pediatric nutrition. I am nationally involved with several societies and groups that make a difference in children’s lives: the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (NASPGHAN), the NASPGHAN special interest group for intestinal rehabilitation (IRSIG), the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN), and the American Gastroenterology Association (AGA). I also enjoy teaching the next generation of pediatric fellows, residents, and medical students.
