About Me
As a dedicated clinical psychologist at the 做厙TV Langone Child Study Center, I specialize in treating anxiety, mood, and related disorders in children, teens, and young adults. My academic journey began with a bachelors of arts in psychology from Williams College, followed by a doctor of philosophy from Temple University, where I trained under Dr. Philip Kendall, a leader in child anxiety research. I honed my clinical skills during a predoctoral internship at Childrens National Hospital in Washington, DC, and furthered my expertise through a post-doctoral fellowship at Boston Universitys Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders (CARD).
Currently, I serve as the clinical director of the Anita Saltz Institute for Anxiety and Mood Disorders at the Child Study Center. In this role, I lead initiatives to provide top-tier, evidence-based treatment, ensuring our patients receive the most effective care possible. Our team is composed of highly dedicated clinicians who are experts in youth anxiety and mood disorders. We have conducted extensive research, educated peers globally, and, crucially, have substantial experience treating young patients and their families. Our commitment to aligning our practices with the latest research ensures that we provide the highest level of care.
Additionally, I am the clinical director of the Evidence Based Treatment Dissemination Center (EBTDC), where I train clinicians across New York State in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care. My career in clinical psychology is fueled by a profound desire to help individuals lead more fulfilling lives. I chose to focus on child psychology because I believe early intervention can significantly impact a childs future. By addressing mental health challenges like anxiety and depression in childrens formative years, we not only improve their current wellbeing but also set them on a path to healthier, more successful futures.
Building trust and rapport with my patients is central to my therapeutic approach. I prioritize active listening and validation, recognizing the courage it takes for patients and families to seek help. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I empower my patients to actively participate in their treatment, which fosters trust and enhances therapeutic outcomes.
In my practice, I treat patients with a range of anxiety disorders, including social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and panic disorder, along with related conditions such as depression, tics, and body-focused repetitive behaviors. My approach emphasizes evidence-based treatments like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), exposure and response prevention (ExRP), and mindfulness interventions.
When seeking treatment for anxiety and depression, it is crucial for families to choose specialists who combine deep academic knowledge with comprehensive practical experience. The more adept therapists are in specific interventions, the more they can tailor treatment to fit each patients needs, optimizing outcomes and promoting resilience and wellbeing.
