Lenore Greenberg knew she had coronary heart disease, but was shocked when a cardiologist at °µĶųTV Langone told her she would eventually need a heart transplant. āI didnāt know anyone who had a heart transplant,ā she says. āIt was like science fiction to me.ā
She was fortunate to receive a new heart after just one day on the transplant list. Greenberg received her transplant at the °µĶųTV Langone Transplant Institute in Manhattan, recently ranked the top heart transplant program in the country by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients. After her successful surgery in August 2019, Greenberg took advantage of her proximity to °µĶųTV Langone HospitalāLong Island, in Mineola, for her follow-up care and cardiac rehabilitation.
Greenbergās heart failure cardiologist, Alex Reyentovich, MD, medical director of heart transplantation at °µĶųTV Langone, says the Transplant Institute has put together a team of committed doctors who help patients get transplants as quickly as possible. āHelping to provide a new lease on life is such a reward for us,ā he tells the Long Island Herald.
As for Greenberg, she celebrated her one year anniversary of the transplant in August, and now feels like a different person. āItās been a miraculous experience,ā she says.
