°µÍøTV Langone’s Chair of Surgery and Director of the Transplant Institute Named Among Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World

Robert Montgomery, MD, DPhil, the H. Leon Pachter, MD, Professor of Surgery, chair of the °µÍøTV Grossman School of Medicine , and director of the °µÍøTV Langone Transplant Institute, was recognized among Time magazine’s annual list of 100 most influential people in the world for 2025. Dr. Montgomery is a renowned transplant surgeon and has pioneered the field of xenotransplantation since the first-ever gene-edited pig kidney transplant into a human. In 2024, he led the transplantation of gene-edited pig kidneys into two people under the FDA’s Expanded Access protocol, also known as compassionate use. Clinical trials to determine future therapeutic use of gene-edited pig kidneys are expected to being this year.

Renowned Hair Loss Expert Recognized by American Hair Research Society and American Academy of Dermatology for Achievements in Research and Treatment

Jerry Shapiro, MD, a professor in the , received two award recognitions for his achievements in research, treatment, and academia around hair disorders over the past thirty years. He received from the American Hair Research Society, and a from the American Academy of Dermatology. A pioneer of hair loss research and treatments, Dr. Shapiro has written more than 150 peer-reviewed journal articles, 30 book chapters, and 4 textbooks on hair loss.
